Tyler is strategically positioned just ninety-five miles east of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, and ninety-five miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana. Excellent interstate and highway systems provide efficient and economical transportation to all destinations. Several national manufacturers and distributors operate in Tyler. We have a fine municipal airport, a beautiful public library, and an outstanding parks system.
Tyler is also an educational center. We are home to Tyler Junior College, TJC Regional Training and Development Complex, The University of Texas at Tyler, and Texas College. The Tyler Independent School District is the major district in Smith County with an enrollment of over 16,000 in grades K-12. Our city has outstanding medical facilities with two large private hospitals and the University of Texas at Tyler Health Center. Because of these rapidly expanding facilities and our renowned quality of life, Tyler was recently ranked the 12th healthiest city in the US.
Tyler is the capital of Smith County and one of the most beautiful cities in East Texas. Life moves at a fast, but comfortable pace. The city offers many amenities to its citizens and is appealing to tourists as well.

UT Tyler—The Bill Ratliff Engineering & Science Complex
Opened in fall 2006, this state-of-the-art facility houses some of UT Tyler's high-quality undergraduate and graduate engineering and science programs relevant to the rapidly changing technological world. This includes such programs as civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science and computer information systems.
The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler
As the only university-based medical center in East Texas, the UTHCT currently offers residency programs, collaborative degree programs, clinical rotations for nurses and other allied health providers and continuing education for physicians and other health care specialists. In June 2005 UTHCT was given authority to award academic degrees.
